Schoolnet Toolkit

This toolkit arose from recognition of the need among teachers in Southeast Asia for a guide book that would help them to establish or strengthen Schoolnets in their countries.
This publication was produced as part of a UNESCO project titled, "Strengthening Use of ICTs in Schools and Schoolnet in Southeast Asian Countries", funded by Japanese Funds in Trust (JFIT) and the ASEAN Foundation.
This project aimed to: a) explore and demonstrate how ICT can be used in schools to improve the quality of education and better prepare youth for the demands of the Knowledge Society; b) test innovative models of ICT use in schools and in other places of learning; and c) improve connectivity and access to educational resources through the establishment of SchoolNets in Southeast Asia. The project established or strengthened national Schoolnets in eight countries (Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philipines, Thailand and Viet Nam).

Handbook on In-house Style for Course Development

Preface
The design and development of this Handbook on In-house Style was conceived, authorised and inspired by Frances Ferreira, Education Specialist, The Commonwealth of Learning to facilitate adaptation of CXC CSEC curriculum in different subject areas at the Ministry of Education, Republic of Trinidad and Tobago for distance teaching-learning, and for development of self-learning course materials initially to facilitate persisters and dropouts of O-level to complete certification successfully, and later to offer as distance learning courses, within the basket of blended learning, for exclusive non-classroom learning and CXC certification.
Handbook Aims
The aims of this Handbook on In-house Style are to provide all those faculty engaged in developing self-learning materials for learners of open schools and distance learners at basic and school education with an understanding of how to develop new curriculum or adapt existing classroom curriculum for open schooling, as well as acquire the knowledge and skills involved in developing self-learning materials for school level distance learners. Examples from the context of open schooling have been provided which you can relate to your own contexts and discipline/subject area for developing and finalising modules and units.

E-LEARNING: A GUIDEBOOK OF PRINCIPLES, PROCEDURES AND PRACTICES

This guidebook will help readers to systematically approach their engagement with e-learning, irrespective of the educational sector or level within which they may be working. The content of this guidebook has been carefully selected to enable readers to consider all the issues in relation to e-learning. Besides the great deal of resources that are included in this guidebook, its unique feature is the opportunity it provides readers to “tell us a story” about their experiences in relation to the issue or subject under discussion. Telling a story requires readers to pause, slow down, reflect, learn, access and share their experiences or connect in a meaningful way with others. These are opportunities designed to remind readers of relevant experiences, which will enable them to reflect upon their experiences and those of other colleagues. These will enable readers to make better sense of what this guidebook recommends.

Divided into nine chapters, this guidebook discuss issues related to attributes of e-learning, Contemporary trends and practices, e-learning management systems, collaborative designs for e-learning, assessing learning outcomes, e-moderation, and evaluation of e-learning environments.

Chapter 1: E-learning definition, scope, trends, attributes & opportunities
Chapter 2: Pedagogical designs for e-learning
Chapter 3: Assessment, feedback, and e-moderation
Chapter 4: Online learning management systems
Chapter 5: Digital learning objects
Chapter 6: Online learning course development models
Chapter 7: Management and implementation of e-learning
Chapter 8: Evaluating the impacts of e-learning

e-Learning for Development Free Course

In the sustainable development and agricultural community, there is a large gap between the number of people espousing the promise of the Internet to increase access to education and training and the number of people actually developing relevant and instructionally sound content.
This course is designed to address the gap between the number of people espousing the promise of the Internet to increase access to education and training, and the number of people actually developing relevant and instructionally sound content.

Development organizations are making tremendous investments that will link people in remote locations to learning opportunities on the Internet. But where is the content to deliver over these links? The problem is not one of demand or lack of suitable content. Rather, the people best positioned to add value to knowledge by packaging content in Internet-accessible and educationally sound ways lack the skills to do so.

The link:

A Basic Guide to Open Educational Resources

This Guide comprises three sections. The first – a summary of the key issues – is presented in the form of a set of ‘Frequently Asked Questions’. Its purpose is to provide readers with a quick and user-friendly introduction to Open Educational Resources (OER) and some of the key issues to think about when exploring how to use OER most effectively.
The second section is a more comprehensive analysis of these issues, presented in the form of a traditional research paper. For those who have a deeper interest in OER, this section will assist with making the case for OER more substantively.
The third section is a set of appendices, containing more detailed information about specific areas of relevance to OER. These are aimed at people who are looking for substantive information regarding a specific area of interest.

Open Training Platform From UNESCO and many Free courses

A good resource for free courses and Researches, It is apart from UNESCO.
The objective behind this platform is to empower trainers or/and trainees with free resources, offer them a structured collaborative space to share their training but also to promote and value the “open” training materials, which are freely and openly accessible for trainers and self-learners to use and re-use for non commercial purposes such as teaching, learning and research.

It offers a central access point to non-formal education resources and training which may be relevant to them according to their needs, knowledge, language and culture, with special emphasis on developing countries’ people. This is at the service of end users (through community centers, IT kiosks, equipped libraries, etc.) but also helps trainers in their guiding and facilitating role to make people, including women and young, adapted to actively participate in knowledge societies and economies where their future stands in their ability to be active opportunity seekers

Mobile Learning in Developing Countries

Mobile learning, or m-learning, is a personal, unobtrusive, spontaneous, “anytime, anywhere” way to learn and to access educational tools and material that enlarges access to education for all. It reinforces learners’ sense of ownership of the learning experience, offering them flexibility in how, when and where they learn. In developing countries, mobile technologies potentially deliver educa- tion without dependence on an extensive traditional communications infra- structure, leapfrogging some of the intervening development phases encoun- tered in developed countries such as installing extensive electricity power grids, and building multiple computer rooms in educational institutions. Although m-learning experience remains limited, it is becoming a credible, cost-effective component of blended open and distance learning (ODL) provisions, adaptable to an institution’s needs and situation. M-learning devices are lightweight and handheld, including: • Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), and palmtop or handheld computers. • Mobile phones, also called cell phones or handphones. Consider mobile phones, which are cheap and widely available, alongside other wireless communication devices; and handhelds, which are more expensive and scarce, alongside desktop and laptop comput- ers. Mobile devices are educationally interesting because they offer: • Several communications channels on one device, for example, email, voice, and text messaging. • Cheaper, comparable functionality with desktops or laptops. • Wireless access to educational materials, other students and Internet resources. Handhelds are currently the dominant mobile devices, apart from basic mobile phones. These technologies are converging, creating power- ful all-in-one tools such as “smartphones,” mobile phones with the func- tionality of a handheld; and handhelds with mobile phone capability. This guide focuses on the use of handheld computers or smartphones in m-learning.

Handbook of Emerging Technologies for Learning

It is a Free book.
This Handbook of Emerging Technologies for Learning (HETL) has been designed as a resource for educators planning to incorporate technologies in their teaching and learning activities.

Introduction
How is education to fulfill its societal role of clarifying confusion when tools of control over information creation and dissemination rest in the hands of learners, contributing to the growing complexity and confusion of information abundance?
Change Pressures and Trends
Global, political, social, technological, and educational change pressures are disrupting the traditional role (and possibly design) of universities. Higher education faces a "re-balancing" in response to growing points of tension along the following fault lines...
What we know about learning
Over the last century, educator’s understanding of the process and act of learning has advanced considerably.
Technology, Teaching, and Learning
Technology is concerned with "designing aids and tools to perfect the mind". As a means of extending the sometimes limited reach of humanity, technology has been prominent in communication and learning. Technology has also played a role in classrooms through the use of movies, recorded video lectures, and overhead projectors. Emerging technology use is growing in communication and in creating, sharing, and interacting around content.
Media and technology
A transition from epistemology (knowledge) to ontology (being) suggests media and technology need to be employed to serve in the development of learners capable of participating in complex environments.
Change cycles and future patterns
It is not uncommon for theorists and thinkers to declare some variation of the theme "change is the only constant". Surprisingly, in an era where change is prominent, change itself has not been developed as a field of study. Why do systems change? Why do entire societies move from one governing philosophy to another? How does change occur within universities?
New Learners? New Educators? New Skills?
New literacies (based on abundance of information and the significant changes brought about technology) are needed. Rather than conceiving literacy as a singular concept, a multi-literacy view is warranted.
Tools
Each tool possesses multiple affordances. Blogs, for example, can be used for personal reflection and interaction. Wikis are well suited for collaborative work and brainstorming. Social networks tools are effective for the formation of learning and social networks. Matching affordances of a particular tool with learning activities is an important design and teaching activity
Research
Evaluating the effectiveness of technology use in teaching and learning brings to mind Albert Einstein’s statement: "Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted". When we begin to consider the impact and effectiveness of technology in the teaching and learning process, obvious questions arise: "How do we measure effectiveness? Is it time spent in a classroom? Is it a function of test scores? Is it about learning? Or understanding?"
Conclusion
Through a process of active experimentation, the academy’s role in society will emerge as a prominent sensemaking and knowledge expansion institution, reflecting of the needs of learners and society while maintaining its role as a transformative agent in pursuit of humanity’s highest ideals.

Mobile Learning Handbook

ADL has developed a ADL Mobile Learning Handbook that focuses on best practices and information about Mobile Learning. This effort began as ADL researched content creation tools and began to establish their own working definitions, design considerations, resources, and more. The original effort was prototyped and released on all major mobile device platforms. The effort has continued with aid some of our partners to develop a more comprehensive desktop version of the ADL mLearning Guide titled the ADL Mobile Learning Handbook. Mobile Learning Toolkit - Free Book

The 98-page toolkit contains 15 mobile learning methods divided into 4 categories that trainers can choose from depending on their needs – whether they’re looking deliver content; assign tasks; gather feedback; or provide support to their training participants.
These methods have been designed to be as inclusive as possible, with most requiring only low end devices (basic mobile phones with voice calling and SMS capability), allowing interactive learning experiences to be delivered right to the Base of the Pyramid.
In addition to the methods, an overview of mobile learning is included in the beginning of the guidebook and a set of practical tools that allow the methods to be immediately put into practice.
As well as a general guide, the toolkit includes recommendations for customising the methods for the delivery of the “my.coop” training programme currently being launched by the International Labour Organization to teach the principles of managing agricultural cooperatives in developing regions worldwide. The toolkit offers my.coop participants the chance to experience the benefits of mobile learning themselves while also empowering them to use mobile learning methods to reach their own trainees, thus multiplying the impact throughout the entire my.coop training pyramid.

Planning, Leadership and Managing Change - Webinar

Technology, Learning and Change: A Webinar SeriesThis webinar series, based on the new book Technology for Learning: A Guidebook for Change, provides information about the process of creating effective, robust technology initiatives based on real-life practitioners’ successes. The three webinars will focus on the issues that help educators to transform today’s schools into thriving digital learning environments. The goal is to help you to identify and plan for key success factors and strategies that will help you get started, expand your existing program, or take your program to the next level.

Webinar #1 – Planning, Leadership and Managing Change

Implementing a comprehensive digital learning program means advance planning that is tied to a district’s organization, culture, and personnel. To achieve goals for teaching and learning, districts need transformational leaders who can inspire and manage staff, students, school boards, and others through the process of change. It also requires restructuring classrooms so they become student-centered digital learning environments. When the process is implemented carefully, the result is a transformation in student and school improvement. This webinar will focus on how to plan; how to empower effective leadership, and how to manage change. Leaders from districts that have shown success will discuss how they got to this point and where they intend to take their strategies in the future.

ROI & eLearning - Myths and Reality

No organization would like to spend on any initiative without a corresponding Return On Investment (ROI). This applies to their investment in eLearning as well. The increasingly cost-focused business world demands increased accountability from all training functions, with eLearning being no exception. However, most organizations reach certain conclusions, without necessarily doing a systematic study of whether eLearning demonstrates ROI in terms of cost and better results. What are some of the myths around this mode of delivery? Does it really deliver on its promises? How do we calculate its effectiveness?
Join our experts to find answers for questions related to ROI and eLearning, including the following:
•What is ROI? How do you calculate ROI on your eLearning initiatives?
•Is the ROI on eLearning more than that of classroom training?
•Why don't many organizations calculate the ROI of learning per se?
•What are the benefits of calculating ROI?
•What are some of the myths surrounding the ROI of eLearning? How do we get a clear picture of what benefits eLearning has?
•What are the various factors that contribute to a good ROI?
•How do you make a realistic assessment of the business impact of eLearning and its ROI?

Proving the Value of Search - Webinar

As a communications professional, you already know the value of integrating search optimization techniques into your marketing campaigns. As technology has become more and more incorporated into our day-to-day routines, search engines have become the most powerful tool to gather and evaluate information about businesses, news, personalities - everything. For most, if you can’t be found in online search, you might as well not exist. But, while these tools have become the central source for information, it can be difficult to prove the value of search marketing. So, how do you "sell" the value of search to your CMO, your online marketing team, and other marketing channel managers internally?
Francis Skipper, 451 Marketing’s Director of Search Engine Marketing, will teach you why search marketing is one of the most valuable components to any businesses’ success in this FREE webinar. Francis will outline the best tools to monitor search, how to set them up, and explain how to leverage these tools to determine ROI (or ROAS). Attendees will gain a more in-depth knowledge of search and how to “sell” search to their teams and CMO

We-leaening 2011 The Social Learning Workshop

Social Learning is adding an exciting new dimension to enterprise learning and talent management. But with so many new developments happening on a daily basis, it's hard to know what to do. Learning professionals need information and a chance to ask the experts in person.

Here's your opportunity to talk to the experts in social learning and discuss all of the latest trends and technologies. We-Learning 2011, an invitation-only, half-day workshop series featuring Bersin & Associates analysts, is coming to a city near you. This is your chance to learn about how to bring social learning best practices to life within your organization.
Based on the strong response to last year's We-Learning Workshops, SkillSoft has expanded the number of events, but seating is extremely limited. Please respond quickly to ensure your place at the table.

We hope you'll take advantage of this unique opportunity to interact one-on-one with your peers, and acknowledged experts in the field. We've limited attendance to enable more personal interaction. So please take this opportunity to register now.

Come see what Adobe Captivate is all about. I will share some of my projects over the past few years, as well as:
• give you tips on prepping your screenshots
• making custom buttons and text captions
• settings to get the most out of Captivate
• why I couldn't live without the Object Style Manager
• how Captivate is being used in the eLearning community and beyond
